Solution: Border & Immigration
I am a problem solver and business owner who is running for Governor to free California to live, work, and breathe again. Our state depends on immigrants from around the world and it depends on the enforcement of fair and just laws.
Watch my plan to secure our southern border and treat immigrants fairly:
Step 1: Secure Our Southern Border
We must secure our southern border, which accounts for 7% of the US land border with Mexico.
During a border visit in June, I discovered that the California border currently faces a severe shortage of border patrol staff. I would suspend extended federal unemployment benefits and work actively with the federal government to fill vacancies.
In addition, California has partially completed its wall; I would use the budget surplus to complete this structure.
Step 2: Advance Immigration Reform
I will work with the federal government to advance immigration reform through employer sponsorship. We need labor to power our state and our economy. Right now in California, demand for labor outweighs the supply.
Immigrants who have led productive lives in America for many years must have a simple path to citizenship.
At the same time, I will ensure that our laws treat both immigrants and natural-born residents fairly – currently, some laws favor immigrants unjustly and others punish them unjustly.
Our family has chosen dual-language (Hispanic and English) education for our children because we honor Hispanic contributions to California.
Step 3: End California’s Status as a Sanctuary State
We are a nation of laws. To secure our border and ensure legal immigration, we must work with the federal government to achieve a lasting solution to our border issues. We are a nation of laws.
