“We don’t have a gun problem; we have a sick culture that glorifies violence.”

(IRVINE, CA) – Jenny Rae Le Roux called out the politicization of the horrific May 24 Uvalde shooting in a scathing statement, saying that politicians and the media are sowing hate and dividing the country while ignoring the root causes of mass shootings.

Specifically, Gavin Newsom announced a California gun buyback program that is pure political theater – it will only remove guns from law-abiding citizens while leaving the criminals alone.

“The root cause of gun violence isn’t guns”, she stated. “It’s violence, and we have all glorified a culture of violence – in video games, movies, and even the way we talk about politics. Until we change our sick culture, we will never solve the mass shooting crisis.”

Le Roux calls for a solution aimed at the root causes to the epidemic of violence in our communities, including:

• Restrict access to violent video games for minors
• Age-gate social media platforms, often used for bullying
• Fully fund extracurricular activities in low-income middle and high schools 
• Add one licensed therapist to every school in CA

“One California school administrator told me that her middle schoolers were opting out of softball because they didn’t have $40 for a mitt. We need to step up for our kids by ensuring every child can take part in extracurricular activities. A sense of belonging and community will reduce violent tendencies in our youth, and will reduce not just gun violence but also suicide and crime,” Le Roux continued.
